Mill pond still,
protected by the harbour wall.
Across the beach and tied to the railings,
ropes trail off into the water.
Boats line up with the ebbing tide.
As if sat on a mirror,
the boats reflections there on the waters surface.
Sea and sky join as one blue canvass,
with a single white cloud thrown in for balance.
Weekend captains and press-ganged crews do battle with ropes, oars, and outboard motors,
whilst every day sailors look on and chuckle.
The fair-weather crews set sail.
