St Agnes

In touching distance of "The Bishop",
huge yachts sail close.
Tea at the "High Tide" cafe,
drinks from the islands shop,
and sea-shanties from "The Turks Head".

Windswept and rugged,
like Cornwall miniature.
Fresh scented heather covers this ancient land,
burrial chambers and standing stones.
Shake hands with the "Old Man of Gugh!"**

The lighthouse stands reassuring,
strong but at rest.
Tourist boats ebb and flow
as the rotting hull of a boat watches from the sand-bar.
Grey, white and peach coloured stones on the beach,
perfect white sand.

The other 'Old Man' on his old tractor,
"race" to meet the next boat

** Pronounced "Goo"
