Pembrokeshire

Its immense and seemingly enless skies.
Cloud upon cloud upon cloud upon cloud,
stretching as far as the eye can see!
Its vast open countryside echoes these seemingly endless skies.
Its natural beauty,
its birds and its wildlife.
All that history!
Its green pastures meet the seas along its miles of craggy coastline.
Its farmers work its land,
its fishermen harvest the bounty from its turbulent seas.
Its cliffs,
its coastline is shaped by the very gales which are blown in from the deep atlantic.
Bending and shaping its trees and hedgerows,
driving waves onto its shores to shatter its rocks,
forming sand for its beaches,
its seas rush into its shores,
waves for its surfers to ride,
wind for the sails of its yachts to gather,
taking them around and away from its shores.

Vast.
Almost deserted.
Ancient and stunningly beautiful!

...Pembrokeshire.

(Haiku)

Ah! But which came first?
Agitated owner, or
agitated dog?

Writing This Poem

Sat in the pews of the abbey dedicated to St Peter and St Paul in Shrewsbury,
facing the alter,
head bowed,
looking for all the world like I'm in deep contemplation,
in reverence to the majesty of the venue I find myself in,
contemplating my sins perhaps,
(not that I have any of course),
in front of he who was said to have made it all,

...only,
I'm not,
I'm on my phone,
Writing this poem!

Helicopter Circles Over Head

Cloud covered mountains for backdrop.
Flat mirror-like water.
Silhouettes on cliff tops.
Fishermen try their luck.
Lady walks dog.
Dog meets dog.
Dogs bark!
Miraculously; couple sleep on rocks.

'Cabbage White' flutters across grassy headland.
Yachts tethered at bouys.
Large dog bounds excitedly in and out of water.
Swifts skim seaweed beds.
Dog ignores owner.

...helicopter circles over head

An Absolutely Perfect Day

Waves lap gently at the shore
washing footprints from the soft golden sand.
Children squeal with excitement.
Mum and Dad watch on.

A man on a jet ski.
Lads on paddle boards.
A lady sets off on swim across the bay,
dragging a pink float behind her,
her three dogs - all wearing life jackets,
follow her.
...looks like they do this every evening!

Setting sun starts to colour the cloudess sky.
Deep yellows turn to fiery oranges.
The sun,
now an orange disc,
quickly drops behind distant headland, leaving a quiet calm to the end of an absolutely perfect day.

Doors

Doors fascinate me!
Smart town doors on smart town houses in smart areas of smart towns owned by smart people!
'Felicity and Jemima' at a smart private school,
a smart pair of cars in the smart driveway,
a driveway no less!
Smartly painted deep blue or vermilion red doors - with a very large,
heavy,
brass knocker in the shape of a lions head on the front!
Successful people leading successful lives behind smart doors!

Scruffy doors,
Scruffy doors on industrial buildings.
Doors on closed down commercial ventures!
Behind that door started somebody's dream,
a dream to run a successful business,
now crumbled and empty behind a shut,
locked and pealing door,
maybe a repossessed door!
What went wrong?

Pub doors!
Small thin double doors.
"Come on in!
Buy a pint and a bag of pork scratchngs!
Come and watch the telly!
We've got 'Sky'
Spend your cash behind our doors!"

Shop doors left open to entice us in,
fascinating sounds and smells going on inside.
Restaurants with doors,
locked but with a scribbled note stuck to the inside saying,
"Open tonight at 6pm, please come and visit us then. Book online!"

Big chain stores with multiple doors,
but which door to choose?
"No not that one!
         ...that's the exit!"

Huge doors.
Tiny doors - how does anyone get in through those without banging their head!
Glass doors you can hardly see,
big heavy solid wooden doors covered in metal studs - almost threatening!
Rotating doors in posh hotels,
always open yet always closed - very clever!
Automatic doors that 'swoooosh' open as you walk past like the doors on the 'bridge' of the star-ship 'Enterprise'.

Doors.
All types sorts and sizes and shapes and colours and materials and ages and designs and; and...

...and all we want to know is,

         ...what's going on behind them?
