You are weak and easily tempted

I, blatantly there throughout your day

call to you to have just one more fix 

I laugh at the tax you put on me

you just pay the little extra

you've got to have me 

you don't care!

I'm sometimes subtle - often hidden 

there in the shadows 

you take me in without knowing - you should read the labels more often

sometimes the thought of living life without me seems impossible - despite the harm I do to you

you can't live without me 

anyway - I'm everywhere!

You've tried to create a substitute for me

but it's just not the same

you don't get that hit

that reward

really I'm good for nothing

that short high is all you get

but it doesn't last

you simply crash - then come back to me

for more!

I am like your local drug dealer

selling you a ten quid wrap

knowing you'll be back for more

despite the harm I cause you

you simply can't do without me

can you!

I'd like a membership to this club

but I can't apply - and here's the rub

although this thought fills my mind

I cannot join - I'd be declined

I think about it every day

this club helps keep 'the blues' away

I'm not quite sure what type I'd be

there are so many types I see

some garden, planting things to grow

blooms they exhibit in a show

the active ones give golf a try! 

do something new - sail or fly!

some head to the dump with daily runs

take all the clutter their partner shuns

some wash their cars and polish them too

meticulously - like they never used to do!

I'm sure some of them must get bored 

missing the things they once adored

but your house might be in disrepair 

sheds full of rubbish - junk everywhere 

a garden like a jungle you can't see its end

fences waiting for you to mend

but what do you do when everything's complete

your garden, the shed, it's all looking neat!

yes the lawn will need a trim

a weed and an edge, 

a water, 

or a strim

but you've got seven days a week to fill

if you can't fill them, I know who will!

that said I can't wait I'd be inspired!

I've lots I want to do - when I'm retired!

we have so many to chose from - and we've got to have one

we buy little outfits for them

which say more about us 

than it does them 

we use them in so many different ways 

what I do with mine is not what you do with yours - for you will have one

we get them out at every opportunity

to pass the time

for important business

for information 

for entertainment - because they are so very useful

they do things for us 

in so many different ways - we just can't live without them

they almost run our whole lives

they are many things all wrapped up into one

and it messes up our day if we accidentally leave the house without them

I used one to publish this piece!

I can't image not having one - can you?
