Snow

A white carpet of magic
covers the dawn
colouring rooftops
painting parked cars
as curtains tossed aside
eyes open wide
excitement over flows
screams at bedroom windows - there are plans to be changed
for schools will be closed
days to rearrange
unexpected consequences
like...
no school today
for the buses won't run
we'll have to stay home

but...
concerned parents
messaging work
phone calls to grandparents
yet children don't care
with hats and scarfs
wellingtons and gloves
there's fun to be had!

But then...
all too soon
like a dream that is taken
by the rising of the sun
the blinding white carpet
soon dirty and stained
pitted with footprints
melting into rivulets
puddles and streams
chuckling along curb sides
tinkling down drains
watery sunshine
the magic is taken - taken like the dream
now only cold and wet fingers
happiness and smiles

...and the memories
remain

Perhaps It Will Snow

I just rang to say I can't talk right now. The breaklights in front of me too loud!
On reflection I heed their warning and keep my distance!

I am unique
life won't change me
I like criticism - but don't disapprove!
Every life-time takes a moment.
I haven't lived long enough to write about it yet.

Three robins argue on the trunk of a fallen tree
it's fruit not having fallen far.
A murder of crows sit and discuss beneath a rainbow
whether it's too cold to snow.
The winter sun reveils so much,
like the few remaining autumn leaves
and just how cold it is.
Perhaps it will snow!

(Haiku)

Flakes of snow caught in
beams from car headlights; swirl in
early morning gloom.

(Haiku)

Snow puts me into
a torpor; just wrap up warm
and grab a hot drink

I Dreamt of White

I Dreamt of white,
as if all the stars had fallen and covered the ground.
I felt the cold of children playing,
released from their chores,
busy making memories.
I felt the bite of a freeze,
saw familiar places changed -
the normal rearranged.

Time with loved ones
extra time not planned for -
hot soup and sleeping bags...

...and then it was gone
