Quietly Silently Calmly Whispering

quietly stood on the bridge over the silent railway
mist resting calmly across a field
my ears hear the whispering voices of people my eyes cannot see
coming and going on the breeze
gently mixing with the sound of the calm all around me
the ice from the early morning silently persisting under the shadows along one side of the lane
the opposite side
the side in the weak winter sun
quietly dries
and as I walk
without a sound
sunlight flickers through the bare winters hedge
silently sleeping
awaiting the warmth of spring
like the apples on the trees in the orchard
quietly awaiting the signal to start the cycle once more

Wouldn't Hold The Door Open

sat on the bloody stairs wheezing
like an old man in a young mans clothes
a fag behind me left ear
a 'lived-in' nose
just a grumpy old man who wouldn't hold a bloody door open for a woman
and those bloody cars
splashing through puddles
creating rainbows
I wouldn't hold the door open for them neither
no pot of gold at the end of that one
but I never give up quitting!
"Don't write notes here!" the note reads
I wouldn't hold the door open for a bloody note neither
nor for the girl who lifted her head from her 'mobile
just in time to avoid walking into the bloody 'Tesla
stuck at the pumps
"Oy! You can't breakdown there mate!"
Bloody obsessive!
I wish I'd spent more time at work!
Bloody work
I don't think so!
Wouldn't hold the door open for work!
The NHS is very sick - wouldn't hold the door open for the NHS neither
Bloody NHS!
...just wouldn't!

A Nice Day

Two aeroplanes in race to the sun
mark an early morning sky
clouds as huge as mountain ranges
outlined by the early morning sunlight
tower in the distance
early morning risers run engines to clear windows
mist like a a duvet - lays low across a damp field
sheep carry-on oblivious
early morning azure blue skies
visible through a rip in the clouds
disappear as the rising sun breaks through
lifting the damp streets and colouring in all it's gloomy spaces - I think it's going to be a nice day!

Walking In His Footsteps

I have two pairs of thick woollen socks
They are from New Zealand and are made of New Zealand wool.
They belonged to my late brother
and yes they are warm
and yes they are comfortable - but that's not why I wear them.
I wear them because
when I walk
where ever I walk
whenever I walk
with them on - I walk in his footsteps.
