The August sun through beech tree shone
illuminating ancient fort
who's ramparts now in beech tree clad
once shelter, food and comfort brought.
Stand tall beech trunks; their silver bark
like monuments to all good men
now mark a place where battles fought
and battles won brought peace again.
Sun through green translucent leaves
making wiry fingers crawl
the shadows of ancestors sway
'neath dancing beech trees standing tall
Shadows celebrate the lives
that once upon this land were found
despatched from under dancing beech
from ancient fort - back to the ground
