The Future

I wanted to have a go at working out some of the big questions of life for you all - in poetry/prose form.
But I think I will just confuse you even further.  But, here we go anyway...

1. The future
Eventual, forthcoming, imminent, impending, planned, and prospective.

Words to describe "the future"

So what is and where is the future?
What colour is it? (let's not go there - one confussion at a time OK!)

Talking about the future gets you all wrapped up in philosophy
the future is very much inolved in the subject of "time"
as the future is perceived to be a period of time ahead of us

"time and space"
"how I experience time isn't how you experience time" - that sort of thing

Now, I'm no philosopher - just a confused poet with too many questions in his head
but as I see it
the future is a construct that never actually exists - think about it
the future hasn't yet happened
yet, when it does happen - when we perceive it to have happened...
it's no longer the future!
it becomes now!

now is the future from 10 years ago
...and now
...and now
...and now - if you get my drift

Modern confectionary.
Those large 'Duo Bars'
On the side say "one now - one for later!"
When is later?
Now?
...now?
...now!
You were always going to eat both pieces straight anyway weren't you!

I believe that the future is not just sat there
waiting for you to wake up - all... preordained
prearranged
predetermined - and other words beginning with 'pre'
like 'The Generation Games' conveyor belt
all full with goodies
for you
all heading your way - if you could only remember them
stretching out front of you
feeding itself to you
day by day
hour by hour - no!

You!
You sat there
you and your actions today
"the here and now"
you can change what the future delivers
the future is like an infinitly sided "Rubics cube"
harder than the normal one
and confess -  you can't even solve that one can you
and so it has an infinite number of permutations
now; I know that West Ham won't win the Premiership
speaking as a less than dedicated 'Hammers' fan
and I know that if you don't buy a lottery ticket
it is certain you won't win the jackpot

Does that mean if you do buy a ticket
you will win?
well - only a fool thinks so!
(Remember: infinite number of permutations?)
there is a very very very slightly increased chance you'll win something if you buy a ticket
but remember
what should happen - might not happen
and what shouldn't happen - might
(infinite number of permutations)
the future is a period that has yet to be
what colour and shape it is
is up to you

Try this:
the car that might knock you down if you cross the road without looking
is still in its driveway
your actions
and a small thing called 'time'
has a lot to do with that outcome
and so with your future!

What I do know is that you mustn't  wait for the future.
Make it!
I hope that this has confused you further!
and I wish you well
...in the future!

Oh and, don't forget to look before you cross that road
because that car has now left its driveway!

Take care
...in the future!

Thank you!

What did they have to
give up to have everything
they wanted in life?

(Haiku)

Poetry is my
therapy. It allows me
to sort my head out

I Me My

I get distracted
I'm very easily distracted
I start one job then end up doing something else
then something else
then I suddenly bump into the thing it was I was doing ten minutes ago that I didn't finish
so I finish that
forgetting to finish the other thing I started when I got distracted
...and so it goes on
I usually finish all the things I meant to do
but some bits of those things get left by the wayside
my head is usually half an hour down the road
I'll be doing something but thinking about the thing I've got to do after the thing after what I'm doing now
consequently some bits of those things get left by the wayside too
my mind wanders
a train goes by
a plane flys over head
I hear the washing machine stop
these things pull me away
away from what I was doing at the time I heard them
my head usually has a list of the days events in it
usually
usually because life doesn't always run to a list
the car parking space at the surgery isn't always there waiting for you
the box you have to open doesn't always open to the instructions written on it
my blue-tooth speaker isn't always where I left it
which could be anywhere as I tend to simply drop the thing I'm doing when I've finished doing it
then go on to attend to what's next on the list in my head
and if the box says it is supposed to open in a certain way
it should open in a certain way
if it doesn't I get cross and drift away
If I'm watching a TV program or film
and a fly lands on the screen
I find myself asking
"What is the fly that is sat on the TV screen thinking about this film? Is it enjoying it?"
and
"is that one picture over there not straight, or are all the others out of true?"
These things make following a storyline very difficult
I also tend to see things that others don't
I see beauty in things others might not see at all
little details that fascinate me
I'm pulled away by the little details which nature has to offer
the way the light might shine on a leaf
the lines a cars tyres left in the mud
stuff like that
I see photos
I have a million million photos in my head that no camera has ever captured
I have a million million words going round my head that won't form themselves into a poem - but then sometimes they do
I always have a song going round my head
and sometimes that song might pop out
add to this my constant companion
the high pitched tone which is always there
my tinitus
and my head is a busy place!
So, if you see me out and about
or if you've said something to me
and maybe I don't remember it or see you
it's probably because I'm away with the fairies
thinking about doing the thing after
the one after
 ...the thing I'm doing now
or admiring the way the sunlight catches the leaves on a bush
or thinking that that mark down the side of that car, make by a muddy puddle the car must have driven through
would make a great subject to paint
..so it's not you
it's just me!

Breaklights

the rain persists
breaklights shine brightly Infront of us
as grey skies dip down as if to touch the road ahead
familiar views go missing under the dull featureless sky
tryes throw up spray
rain pounds the windscreen
wipers work overtime
messages on matrix signs reflect in puddles ahead
breaklights shine out once more
the traffic closes up
our headlights shine on the vehicle in front of us
through the mist and rain
cars
caravans
motorhomes
vans and lorries
all with important places to go
again start chomping up the miles
until
once more
the break lights appear again!
