Sunday Morning Shopping Mall (The)

The buzz from the key cutter.
The 55 inch flat screen TV's
The wait for a familiar face,
the joy when we see one!
The demands of the children.
The C. C. T. V .
The insistence of the parent.
The young and the old.
The queue in the clothes shop.
The stare at her screen.
The door that once opened means the start of the day.
"The best slopes this winter" .
"The long winter sun".
The stairs; a great playground.
The highly polished floor; reflecting.
The lights in row.
The incomprehensible accents
and "coffees to go"

Glass Skylight Light Show

Glass skylight light show.
A deep blue canvass speckled white and grey with scudding clouds ever changing.

Promising a stunning sun set,
The yellow setting sun hinting of flaming autumnal oranges reds and ochres.
But I will not be here to see it,
this sunset will not be mine

The Male of the Species

(To be read in a David Anttenborough whisper)

Here we see the male of the species foraging for a meal,
Is it be the pasty or a sandwich?
We see him struggle with the fridge door,
I think its going to be the pasty,
no, no he can't open it - it'll have to be a packet of crisps!

Then we see the female enter the shop and the male scurries to find something healthy to impress the female.
We see him falsely deliberating over two types of tinned fruit,
the female isn't impressed and goes straight for the nuts - cashew I believe!

Once she has returned to the car, the male returns to the fridges and continues his struggle with the door!

Stressed Parent

"Sit down!" echos around the near empty restaurant for the 9th time,

"Sit down!"

Even the bribe of a meal from this fast food outlet doesn't work.

And then; the 11th time; "sit down!" but this time the bark has the added "...or you won't get any chicken!" which facilitates quiet and a temporary cessation of hostilities.

Stressed parent heads for the counter to order and almost immediately the fighting starts up.

"I want... I want... want want want!"

"Sit down!!" - I've lost count by now.

A sort of quiet ensues. ...

Stressed parent, with tray of fried chicken and assorted extras re-enters the war zone, the chicken a sort of "United Nations" between these 2 waring factions.

"United nations chicken" and assorted extras plonked between them, peace returns!

Hair cut

What'll all my mates say,
When I get back to school in September,
With my hair cut short!
"Skin 'ead",
"Baldy!"
they'll all shout!

Why did I have to have it cut so short Dad?
Everyone is staring at me,
They're all laughing at me!
I look silly, I look weird!

I'm gonna hate going back to school now,
I'll be a laughing stock,
I'll be the butt of everyone's jokes!

Oh no! There's Amanda Potter!!
She's gonna laugh her head off at my silly hair cut Dad!
She's never gonna talk to me again!

Why's she smiling?
Why's she coming over?
I've just had a hair cut and I look stupid!

"Hi Tom; lookin' cool I see!
See ya back at school!"

Endless Fog

No birds fly,
no sun penetrates,
no blue can we see,
no warmth can we feel.
No bird-song: like night-time,
no movement: just stillness.
Then the calm chill is broken by bird-son
...and a ray of sunlight!
